In an innovation of its sort, Rajesh Vikharia, a life coaching expert, who runs his own training institute providing life-coaching to people to come out of adverse circumstances powerfully, has come up with a unique solution which can serve as a great respite for the judiciary, especially for those judges who are nearing retirement.Rajesh’s solution named as Speech Therapy for Restraint under Influence of Power Syndrome (STRIPS), provides for a 21 day crash course which trains the mind to exercise restraint, and yet feel empowered while making controlled statements expressing anguish and resentment over irrelevant issues.

Rajesh has started this course in his native Nagpur where he runs his life-coaching centre called Thrana Kshati which means “Protection of Loss” and is already overwhelmed with applications not only from Nagpur, but also from other cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, etc. He plans to start franchises in these cities soon following the MacDonalds model wherein the quality and content of the course STRIPS will be controlled from Nagpur but the logistical delivery will be outsourced to the destination.

On being asked about his inspiration to start such a course, Rajesh is quick to mention the name of a retired judge who currently heads the organization of Laundries called the “Press Counsel of India (PCI)”, which is responsible for pressing opinions of India worldwide. Karmenday Matju, who heads the PCI has been in news lately for wrong reasons, controversies and for unwarranted statements and opinions. Incidentally, he is also a retired judge.

Explains Rajesh, “Look, I don’t blame Matju. Probably, I would have done the same had I been in his shoes. He retired 2 years back. That was a time when no one had thought about a program like STRIPS. In fact, his current condition only inspired me to come up with this unique product that does not suffer from competition as of now, since it’s an innovation. We also need to understand that judges enjoy enormous amount of independence, bureaucratic immunity and power. As a result, it is quite natural for them to make statements that can spark a fire or raise a few eyebrows. However, one must also realise that post retirement, same amount of protection is not available and one must exercise restraint.”

Quick to add a reference about his use-case, Rajesh sells the idea of STRIPS to us, “That’s exactly, where STRIPS pitches in. It teaches you to train your mind in such a way that you do not utter potentially objectionable language even when you have the power to do so, let alone doing so in absence of power. And the very fact that judges have realised its value seeing the condition of Matju and how he is being subject to condemnation for every ‘concern’ that he raises and they have approached us in huge numbers to enrol for the program.”

We end this interview with Rajesh wishing him great success in his endeavour to reform the Indian judiciary.
